Sword Auctions
Charity auctions have become quite popular over the years. Items such as cars, televisions, musical instruments, and even dates with celebrities have all been auctioned off for good causes. I don’t see any reason why we can’t auction off a medieval weapon for charity. You could buy a movie replica and have some of the cast sign it, or you could just buy something that looks great and holds nice novelty value. I wrote this article to give you some instruction on organizing, purchasing, and auctioning a medieval sword or other weapon.
Firstly you will need to purchase a medieval weapon to sell at auction. Between swords, axes, daggers, and flails, you’ll have so many options to choose from. Great places to buy these weapons are local hobby shops and Internet stores. Making your purchase online will most likely get you the best price. The weapon can then be shipped directly to your door so you won’t have to spend time picking it up.
Following this you’ll need to find a suitable auction venue. Ebay is just as good of an option as the many physical auction locations you may find locally. Using Ebay will get you great visibility, but it may not get as much personal interest as a physical location auction might. Appealing to auction goers hearts is much easier when you can look them in the eye talk to them in person.
Once you’ve established where you will sell your weapon you will need to decide how much to sell it for. If it has been autographed or has gone up in value in some way, then you will want to make sure that you include the extra price in your auction price starting bid. You wouldn’t want to buy a medieval sword for two hundred dollars, get it signed by a well know actor, and then have it sell for only five dollars and fifty cents.
Once you’ve got your medieval weapon, your auction venue, and a fair auction starting price, you can go ahead and start selling. Make sure you know how the item will be delivered so that you can get it to your buyer as soon as possible. Local purchases are easy because you can give the customer the item right away. When the auction is not purchased locally you will need to get some help from UPS, USPS, or Fed-ex to make your delivery.
